THE Wilderness Hut AT Kaweka Ranch

Our wilderness hut was built 'smack dab' at the very top of Kaweka Ranch, overlooking the distant lights of two cities lying 3,000 feet below with the mighty Kaweka Ranges as a backdrop.

Wilderness Hut

The view from the hut

It's relatively basic as far as cabins go but many of our guests love to escape for a night to our hut, or use it as a hunting base. It's a great opportunity to 'get away from it all' for absolute solitude or a fun time with your 'mates' and the chance to enjoy a tipple or two under the Southern Cross.

Our wilderness experience at Kaweka Ranch is an escape back to the 'real' New Zealand, with hidden pockets of indigenous native forest scattered amongst the gullies and rugged limestone cliffs pushed up from the earth over thousands of years. Exploring and discovering our stunning property is exciting and a night 'camping out' in our wilderness hut is an experience treasured by visitors from all around the world who tell us 'when I imagined New Zealand, this is just how I pictured it'.

Hear the sound of red stag roaring or listen for the lonesome call of an endangered kiwi before retiring for the night, in utterly remote country overlooking the distant lights of two cities 3,000 feet below.
